Director and composer John Carpenter has in recent years been getting long overdue recognition for his film scores. But to my mind the theme he wrote for his truly iconic and influential slasher movie "Halloween" (1978) has always been a classic, atmospheric song perfect for the holiday itself as much as the film series that is themed after/set in it. The song is an instantly recognizable classic, eerie and with that distinctive early synth sound.
