What I'm about to suggest is purely conjecture and it may be that these things are purely coincidental.
In 1983 a pre-written adventure scenario (aka a module) by husband and wife team Tracy and Laura Hickman for the tabletop roleplaying game Advanced Dungeons and Dragons 1st edition was released, named "Ravenloft". This module saw players clash with Count Strahd von Zarovich, essentially Dracula as-popularly-conceived with the serial numbers filed off. Complete with mysterious mist, gypsy fortune tellings, a creepy castle (the titular Ravenloft) and a village gripped in fear. This module proved to be exceedingly popular and eventually spawned an entire pre-constructed world (simply called "Ravenloft" as well) designed to have games take place in it, what is known in tabletop roleplaying spheres as a "campaign setting" or simply "setting".
In 1986 the first sequel to the original module "Ravenloft II: The House on Griffon Hill" was released, but that same year also saw the release of "Stronger than Heaven" the third album by German metal band Stormwitch. This album featured the song "Ravenlord" which has imagery those familiar with Ravenloft, might find eerily familiar.
