31 Songs of Halloween 2017, Day 17

"They're coming to get you Barbara!" these are the words with which, in a light Boris Karloff imitation*, the character Johnny teases his sister Barbara near the start of the legendary & revolutionary** original "Night of the Living Dead" (1968). In 2012 the band No More Kings, who had previously touched on the genre with their song "Zombie Me", paid homage to this iconic film and line with a song and accompanying music video. We lost director George Romero a few months ago, but the undead children of the genre he helped found shamble on, here's to you George!

*I think it's interesting to note that Johnny's Karloff imitation became much more pronounced in the Tom Savini-led 1990 remake of the film.

*Casual fans and aficionados can argue about the finer points of resemblance/possible influence in NOTLD to "Carnival of Souls" (1962) and "The Last Man on Earth" (1964) but there can be no doubt which of the 3 films made the bigger splash and has had the widest influence across the decades.
